Focus Topic: The people building AI asked to slow down. Almost nobody with power agreed.
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei published an essay called We must pace the frontier. His worry is not jobs or misinformation, it is recursive self-improvement: AI is now speeding up its own development, and he says that within 6 to 12 months a swarm of agents could be capable of taking over the entire internet. He wants third-party evaluators embedded inside the labs. The striking part was the agreement.
Altman committed to evaluators, Musk said “Dario is right”, Hassabis and Nadella backed the direction. Rival labs do not normally agree on anything, which suggests the unreleased models are showing something new.
Then the people who could act said no. Trump called AI taking over the world “a HOAX” and argued a “High IQ” president is the only guardrail needed. Beijing called the plan “fear-mongering” and a “Cold War playbook” for keeping China off the best chips. Zuckerberg broke ranks from inside, arguing each lab already has the incentive to pace itself, because nobody wants an agent that ignores instructions, so alignment is a selling point. Scorecard: four labs for a pause, Zuckerberg, Huang, Trump and Beijing against. Acceleration is the default. The European voice came from a finance ministry: France’s Roland Lescure called the slowdown talk “self-interest” and said Europe should speed up its use instead. He has a point. We are not setting the pace of the frontier, we are setting the pace of adoption, and Statistics Estonia put that at 34% of companies using AI, 6.2% using it for a real process or decision.
Here is the part worth keeping. The pause did not happen, but the paperwork moved, all in one week. OpenAI published six reports on its own models misbehaving. Microsoft AI published a code of conduct that outranks its own users. Nvidia and Palantir restricted a model over a data retention policy. So what does this mean for the rest of us. Most of us are not deciding how fast AI gets built, we are deciding what we let it touch this quarter. My simple advice: write down which of your processes an AI tool may run without a human signing off, and which ones it may not. One page. Start with that.
LLMs & AI Models
- Salesforce trained Koa, its own reasoning model on Nvidia’s Nemotron 3 Super, fully synthetic training data, self-hosted, 3x fewer errors on its internal CRM benchmark.
- Anthropic merged Cowork and chat into one Claude and launched Docs and Slides in beta, with decks downloadable as PowerPoint or PDF.
- Claude Projects was rebuilt in beta: one lead Claude splits a goal across several coding sessions at once and keeps working after you log off.
- GPT-6 Astra cracked a 1941 Enigma message in about 10 hours, with agents reading scans, writing code and building a simulator, at a cost of 650M tokens.
- Google debuted Gemini 3.8 Live, voice models that keep talking while they think, and the Extended Thinking version tops the speech-to-speech quality ranking.
- Z AI said GLM-5.3 helped build the 100K-chip cluster now serving it: “our successors are the AI systems we are creating ourselves”.
New Tools
- TypeSafe, founded by a ChatGPT co-creator, launched Jev, which only picks between preset answers so it cannot hallucinate, in 70 to 500 milliseconds.
- Apple shipped the rebuilt Siri AI with iOS 27, able to read your screen and act across apps. Not in the EU, and English-only for now.
- Google Home opened an MCP server in early access, letting Claude and ChatGPT control Nest cameras, thermostats and other devices.

- SEB and Mastercard ran Estonia’s first payment brokered by AI agents: the agent booked on priceless.com and paid with the user’s SEB card via Agent Pay.
- Statistics Estonia: 34% of companies and 65% of people use AI, but only 6.2% of firms use it to automate processes or support decisions.
- Askend founded Askend Agents OÜ with two younger founders, redesigning business processes to run with fewer people and AI agents, foreign markets in sight.
- Andris Reinman runs EmailEngine with 200+ paying customers in 38 countries and no hand-written code in a year: “my role has changed more into a product manager”.
